"Operation: Go Get Her" targets Tunica casino prostitution

Posted: Updated:
TUNICA, MS -

(WMC-TV) - While millions are spent on legalized gambling, prostitution remains a crime at the Tunica casinos.

It's something sheriff's investigators reminded nearly a dozen women of during a recent undercover operation.

"Operation: Go Get Her," said Tunica County spokesman Larry Liddell.  "Appropriately titled," he added.

Liddell summed up the operation in a few words.

"Well, we send officers in and they're approached, and we grab them," he said.

Eight women were charged with prostitution after investigators say undercover officers were offered sex.

All eight of the accused hookers are from Memphis and are due back in court in Tunica later this month.

"We're just trying to let them know that we're not going to tolerate that kind of behavior in Tunica County," said Liddell.

One of the suspected prostitutes was at back at work when Action News 5  went by her house just north of the state line where her mother defended her.

"No, she's not into that," said Vivian Hayes.

She said 21-year-old Tina Hayes holds a nine to five job and went to the casino last weekend on a whim.

"Her and her cousins went down there," said VivianHayes.  "I guess like they'd go out to party and went to the casino together."

Hayes and the other women were booked into the Tunica County Jail before each was released on a $5,000 bond.

Investigators would not say which casinos they targeted, but said this was the first operation of its kind in quite some time.
