MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC-TV) - City union workers have filed an injunction request asking a federal judge to reverse the 4.6 percent pay cut given recently to Memphis employees.
In the lawsuit, union workers are asking for damages, as well as a judgment that the city violated its own ordinances by cutting employee pay.
Memphis Chief Administrative Officer George Little responded to the lawsuit.
"Out premise at the beginning was for folks to have a job with limited benefits rather than no job," Little said. "We'll just have to see where courts rule on that."
The attorney who represents the unions declined an opportunity to comment Monday.
Because of the number of people involved, attorneys who filed the injunction request asked for class action status.
The Memphis City Attorney had until 4:30 p.m. to file an official response to the lawsuit. Check back for updates on this story.
