MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - The citizens of Shelby County just caught a break. We were lucky enough to have part of the lawsuit involving the merger of Shelby County and Memphis City Schools land on the desk of U.S. District Judge Samuel "Hardy" Mays.

Judge Mays jumped in to this extremely complicated situation and delivered a ruling that puts the best interests of children first. His decision addressed the important issues of the case, providing clarity and a roadmap with easy to follow action steps. He didn't make any of the warring factions completely happy, but he did give all of them a way forward.

This is a tremendous gift for all of the people who have a vested interest in this process, and in reality, that's just about everyone who lives in the MidSouth. The question now is to our school and government leaders. Are you going to take this well-thought-out legal ruling and make the most of it, or are you going to proceed in a fashion that squanders this timely gift from Judge Mays?

That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email yourturn@wmctv.com or call 800-465-1210.
