WMC-TV 5 V.P. & General Manager Lee Meredith(WMC-TV) - We were reminded this week about the power of kindness thanks to a report filed by Action News 5's Joe Birch. Joe told us the ordinary story of Memphian Tom Lewis and the extraordinary result that he helped obtain for another Memphian – Carl Brown.
When Lewis first encountered Brown, Brown was a panhandler begging for money. Lewis's initial reaction was the same one that most of us have when we run into a homeless person. He kept on going. But something about Carl Brown made Lewis come back.
Brown was an accident victim who suffered traumatic injuries that will probably challenge him for the rest of his life. Lewis and his wife Dr. Cathy Schanzer, with help from the congregation at St. Patrick Church came up with plan to improve Brown's situation.
I can't do justice to the story Joe wrote in this brief opportunity. If you have not read it, click here to check it out.
The Mid-South has a reputation for having some big-hearted people. Don't be shy about joining that crowd.
