MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Robert Lipscomb probably wishes he had a nickel for every time someone told him that the deal to bring Bass Pro Shops to the Memphis Pyramid would never come to fruition. Lipscomb is the city's director of Housing and Community Development and he was the leading proponent of the plan to bring Bass Pro to the Pyramid.

Earthquake dangers, a weak economy and lots of naysayers all threatened to derail this deal, but it now seems that the perseverance of Lipscomb and others has won the day. October 11 has now been set as a date for the start of construction to turn the Pyramid into a really big Bass Pro Shop and a major tourist destination.

There is great hope that this will be a catalyst for redeveloping the Pinch District into something that we can all be proud of. Robert Lipscomb acknowledges the risks of this project, but also the risk of doing nothing.

If this all comes to pass, he will have earned much of the credit for it was his determination over the past six years that kept this project alive.

That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email yourturn@wmctv.com or call 800-465-1210.
