Clarksdale Police investigating double murder

CLARKSDALE, MS -

(WMC-TV) - Police in Clarksdale, Mississippi are investigating a double shooting that happened Wednesday.

"It's very shocking to me and the neighborhood," said neighbor Eddie Earl.

Two people were stabbed multiple times in a house in a usually quiet Clarksdale neighborhood.  The owner of the house, 71-year-old Flora Watkins, and her boarder, 33-year-old Willie Bass, were both killed.

"She spoke to everybody, treated everybody nice," said neighbor Georgia Robinson of Watkins.

The Clarksdale Police Chief said that marijuana and cocaine were discovered inside the house, but he would not say if drug dealing was going on there.

Neighbors said they saw a lot of people coming in and out of the house.

"Was she a drug dealer?  I really don't know," said neighbor Inez Earl.  "I heard that a lot, but I don't know because I didn't never buy nothing, but I heard it by the crowd they kept."

"No, she wasn't a drug dealer," said neighbor Craig Earl.  "That I know."

Watkins' body was discovered on her couch and Bass was on the floor.  The front door was left open.

Watkins' family said they were puzzled by the whole thing.
