MY TURN: A Christmas gift for Southaven

Southaven Mayor Greg Davis has an opportunity to give all of his constituents a nice Christmas present this year – that would be his resignation.

In the holiday spirit, I will tone down the rhetoric of this commentary and begin by conceding that I'm sure Mayor Davis has done some good work in his tenure as a state representative and as Southaven mayor.

Unfortunately, his sense of personal entitlement to the tax money of the people he serves is nothing short of astonishing.

He brags on the city website about being a model of fiscal responsibility and then goes out and tips $100 on a beer tab of $37. The city money spent by Davis on food, liquor and tipping is astonishing, but the capper has to be the Mayor producing a receipt that he charged to the city from an adult store in Canada that caters to gay men.

Davis tried to bill the city for his marital counseling and now he's charging off something he bought at a sex shop?

Even if Davis was the greatest mayor in the country, he is not entitled to that.

He should spare the citizens of Southaven from the rest of this drama and resign his position as mayor now.

That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email yourturn@wmctv.com or call 800-465-1210.
