MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC-TV) - Dozens of people arrived back in Memphis Wednesday after a Greyhound bus wreck in Oklahoma.
Several passengers were sent to the hospital, while others traveled on another bus.
Elena Major said she was glad to be back in Memphis after a New Year's celebration in Las Vegas.
"Just ready to go home," she said.
Major said she was exhausted after the Greyhound bus she was riding crashed.
"It just smashed," said Major. "It was like, what? We're in an accident?"
Just before 1:00 a.m. Wednesday, while passing through Oklahoma City, the bus slammed into the back of a street sweeper.
There were 50 passengers on board at the time. No one was killed, but 12 passengers and both drivers were taken to the hospital.
A substitute Greyhound took everyone else the remainder of the way to Memphis. Major said the overnight ride was hardly peaceful.
"I couldn't really sleep," said Major. "Too shaken up to sleep anymore."
Already behind schedule, Major said she knows what's next.
"A shower and my house and call my mom and tell here I love her," said Major.
Greyhound said safety is always a top priority. The company is working with police to determine what caused the crash.
Investigators said the driver was not sleeping but may not have been paying attention.
