(AP) - An Arkansas prosecutor says he plans to file murder charges against a 15-year-old who confessed to killing his older sister.

Prosecutor David Gibbons tells The Associated Press Tuesday that he'll charge the teenager as an adult with first-degree murder.

The boy has not yet been identified, though Gibbons says he has an initial court appearance Tuesday afternoon in Russellville.

Gibbons tells the AP he decided to charge the boy as an adult "because of the nature of the crime." The prosecutor says the boy does not yet have an attorney.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office says the boy turned himself into police Sunday morning and said he shot and killed his sister but did not offer a reason why.
