MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -
Traffic is moving along westbound I-24 after all lanes were closed by a wreck Wednesday afternoon involving a Megabus and a tractor-trailer.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation reports the wreck occurred around 2:30 p.m. between mile markers 86 and 87.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the wreck and said the driver of the truck, John Staggs, 48, of Greencastle, IN, told officials he was sneezing and didn't realize traffic had stopped in front of him before colliding into the back of the bus.
Nobody was seriously injured, but Channel 4's news partners at the Daily News Journal report that five people were transported to area hospitals for treatment. And more than a dozen bus passengers refused to be taken to the hospital, the DNJ reported.
TDOT detoured westbound traffic at exit 89 while emergency crews worked to clear the scene, which involved calling HAZMAT crews to clean chemicals from the roadway.
