MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC-TV) - A man charged with killing a four-year-old girl in a hit and run plans to plead guilty.
Friday, the parents of four-year-old Jordan Mathis said the healing process is very slow and painful.
"Some days are better than others," said mother Kaylonie Mathis. "There's no words to explain how we feel."
Kaylonie and Rod Mathis still mourn their daughter as they grapple with pain, sorry, and tearful nights.
Jordan Mathis died August 3 in a violent car wreck on I-240. She was thrown from the family SUV after it was hit by another SUV. The other vehicle sped away on three tires, dragging a mile-long groove in the asphalt before stopping in a driveway.
Police charged the driver of the SUV, Darrian Eldridge, with DUI and vehicular homicide. In court Friday, Eldridge told a judge he plans to plead guilty to all charges.
"He's very remorseful as to what happened as a result of his actions," said defense attorney Leslie Ballin. "And he has accepted responsibility."
Defense attorneys and prosecutors have agreed on an appropriate sequence, but will not announce it until Eldridge's next court date.
"To be honest, life isn't enough," said Kaylonie Mathis. "You know, sentencing him life wouldn't be enough. It wouldn't bring my daughter back."
Eldridge is scheduled to return to court on February 24. The plea agreement between the defense and prosecution is subject to the judge's approval.
