MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – One Cordova woman lost her family in an instant when they were hit by a car on Germantown Parkway and with the investigation still underway she is ready to share her story.

There are still a lot of questions about how the deadly wreck happened on Germantown Parkway, but one of the survivors is left with only memories of the family in the car with her that night.

Susanna and Daniel Martin should still be enjoying their life as newlyweds. Instead, on Tuesday, January 24, a wreck on Germantown Parkway tore the two apart.

"You just don't think that ‘till death do us part' is five months away," said Susanna Martin, who lost her husband an their unborn child that day.

The couple was on their way to dinner, but never made it that far.

"I woke up in the hospital Wednesday night," she said. "I couldn't talk and had to ask my parents what happened and they told me there was an accident and Daniel didn't make it."

"We didn't want to tell her because we wanted her to be able to talk back so she could grieve properly, but she wouldn't let it go," said Susanna's mother Pam Fritchie. "She just kept writing ‘Is Daniel dead? Is Daniel dead?' Finally, we just started weeping with her and we had to tell her because we couldn't keep it from her. Then she started writing ‘What about the baby?'"

Amelia Grace Martin, the baby Susanna had been carrying for four months, didn't survive the crash either. Susanna now wears her husband's wedding band around her neck and keeps her baby's ultrasound picture out.

"I found out in like three minutes that everything I had, I didn't have any more," she said.

The family is still trying to figure out how the wreck happened.

The driver was traveling in a different direction than the Martin's and crossed three lanes of traffic and the median when he hit them.

Susanna was also injured in the wreck. She had to have her spleen removed and had internal bleeding, though she's now home and recovering.

"I was ready to be home, but it's hard to be here too," she said. "Daniel and I got married in the back yard. So it's hard to be here."

Susanna's attorney said police are investigating the cause of the wreck and he is still waiting on a final report that should tell him more about the driver's condition at the time.
