PONTOTOC, Miss. (AP) - Dozens of dogs have recently been reported missing in the Pontotoc County area.
Katie Elizabeth Jackson, founder and board president of the Pontotoc County Animal Rescue and Shelter, tells The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal that she has received nearly 60 calls about missing pets in the past week.
She says most were from the city of Pontotoc and the county, but two were from Union County, two from Houston and three from Houlka.
She says most were unaltered pets that people let outside. And she says many of the missing dogs are pit bulls. She's worried that people are taking pets to use as fighting dogs.
She says that most people also tell her they don't have any ID on the animal's collar.
