MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A passionate Mid-South high school student from Dyersburg who breeds, raises and markets sheep and their fleece participated in the White House Science Fair Tuesday.

Maryanna McClure was one of the 100 students from 45 states to participate - she took her love for livestock to Washington D.C. after winning first place in a Future Farmers of America Agri-science fair.

President Obama hosted the event - this is the second year the White House held a science fair as part of President Obama's Educate to Innovate campaign.

Last year he was quoted saying, " If you win the NCAA championship, you come to the White House. Well, if you're a young person and you produce the best experiment or design - you ought to be recognized for that achievement too".

President Obama said he was not only impressed with McClure's intelligence but was equally impressed with other students as they recognized their talent as a contribution to the world. Students were the country's top winners of STEM: a science, technology, engineering and math competition.

"I couldn't think of anything that I would be more proud to show than my sheep," said McClure.

"That's really what I'm passionate about and it was really great to be able to tell the president about what I've been doing, and educate him a little bit more on the need for people to be involved in the livestock industry".

Mclure said being in the White House was a once in a lifetime experience - she recognized in scientific research in agriculture and sheep genetics.

"To have the president tell me that I did something good and that he was proud of me is just something that will probably never be surpassed by anything in my life," said McClure, "it was really really great"
