Ask Andy: Cool Car Apps

Posted: Updated:
MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC TV) - Search your smart phone's app store or market for these helpful -- and FREE -- auto apps:

* CARFAX. The vehicle history company's app lets you pull up a vehicle's service and title history simply by scanning the vehicle's bar code on the dashboard or driver-door sidewall, or by entering the vehicle's license plate number. NOTE:  you must have a Carfax account in order to use the app, so you will have to purchase an account.

"All the information from our 34,000 sources instantly pops up simply by scanning the bar code or entering the license plate," said Carfax's Chris Basso.

FOR PRICING/LISTINGS OF USED CARS:

* CARS.COM'S APP

* AUTOTRADER

* KELLEY BLUE BOOK (KBB.COM)

* NATIONAL AUTOMOBILE DEALERS ASSOCIATION (NADA)

* EDMUNDS, INC. Provides both new and used car research and Edmunds' trademark True Market Value pricing.

For insurance quotes, I have yet to find a reliable, independent app I trust for price comparisons.

Most insurers offer their own free apps to receive free direct quotes. I recommend you research insurers with exceptional A.M. Best ratings (http://www.ambest.com/), then search your phone's app store or market for those insurers' apps.
