MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Thursday's testimony in the federal drug trial of two cousins suspected in contract killings revealed a terrifying scene in a Germantown neighborhood.

The drug trafficking trial of cousins Martin and Clinton Lewis, the alleged violent sidekicks of drug kingpin Craig Petties, could easily be mistaken for a scripted crime drama.

Petties had a gang of men who would do whatever he asked, including rob and kill.  The murder trial of Martin and Clinton Lewis has shed light on an underworld of violent drug trafficking.

In federal court Thursday, a witness who was part of Petties' drug ring told jurors the cousins tried to kill him in July of 2008 after he stole drugs and more than a million dollars from the organization.

Bobby Craft said he had to shoot his way out of the driveway of his Germantown home with his 6-year-old son in the car when the Lewis's and other armed men arrived.

A few months later, Craft was arrested and charged with crimes that carried a life sentence.  So far, he has only served 11 days.

Craft pleaded guilty and cut a deal with federal prosecutors who are hoping his testimony will put Martin and Clinton Lewis behind bars forever.

This is the third week of the trial.  Some witnesses who have yet to testify are not scheduled to arrive in Memphis until March 5.
