Police search for three suspects in jewelry store heist

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Curtis Keller was recently convicted for being the mastermind of a violent 2008 home invasion in Germantown, during which a family and several friends were tied up and robbed.

Now, nearly four years later, police are trying to catch two men and a woman who robbed the same home-owner's jewelry store in east Memphis.

"It just unnerves every jeweler in the neighborhood," said one jeweler who did not want to be identified.

"You don't know who's coming to your door," she said. "You don't want to refuse business or judge people, but you have to be extra careful."

Investigators returned to Handiwork Jewelry on Mendenhall Monday afternoon to follow-up on the robbery that occurred around 5:00 Friday.

The suspects, pretending to be customers, threatened employees with a taser, restrained them with zip ties, and got away with $10,000 worth of jewelry.

According to police reports, the crooks destroyed the store's surveillance system before leaving.

Employees of surrounding stores are equally concerned about the crime.

"We'd love for somebody to get caught before somebody gets really hurt," said Frank Fournier at All About Bikes.

The jeweler with whom we spoke says there's only so much a store can do.

"If someone's determined with a gun to come in a take what you have, they're going to do it," she said.

Police would not speculate about any possible connection between the 2008 home invasion and Friday's heist at the jewelry store.

There are only vague descriptions of the suspects who hit Handiwork Jewelry. However, the female suspect did have noticeable scars on one of her arms.
