CORDOVA, TN -

(WMC-TV) – The man accused of rape in Cordova made his first court appearance Thursday.

Police believe Anthony Alliano has been raping women in the Memphis suburb since 2003.

Alliano appeared in court via video arraignment on charges of rape, robbery, and burglary.

Police say a 27-year-old Cordova woman, who was raped in 2010, identified Alliano in a photo lineup after police caught him on surveillance camera using her stolen credit card to make purchases at a retail store.

The victim told police she was sleeping at home when he walked in, forced her upstairs at knifepoint, then raped her in a bedroom closet.

In court on Thursday, Alliano was ordered by the court to submit to a blood test.

"That's actually by statute any time anyone is charged with this kind of offense. They draw blood to see, it's actually for an HIV test," said Blake Ballin, Alliano's attorney.

While investigators work to link Alliano to other crimes in Cordova, he remains behind bars on a $250,000 bond.
