MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - The mother of conjoined twins charged with a hit and run that injured two women was supposed to be booked into jail Monday, but she never showed up.

Adrienne Spates was scheduled to be processed on charges of DUI and vandalism in connection with an April incident that took place at the home where the father of her twins resides.

Police said she broke a window at his duplex. When they caught Spates a short distance away, she had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and smelled of alcohol.

Spates was expected to turn herself in, where was to be photographed and fingerprinted. Since she missed her processing date, she will be booked on the morning of her court date instead.

Last month, Spates came forward as the person who was behind the wheel when two women in Cooper-Young were hit by her car.

One of those women was severely injured and is still recovering from a fractured pelvis and neck injury.

Spates' twins are now in protective custody with the Tennessee Department of Children's Services.

Spates will face a judge for the hit-and-run on July 23 at 9 a.m.
