First Lady Michelle Obama will visit Memphis this week

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - First Lady Michelle Obama has a date with Memphis this week. The president's wife is scheduled to host a fundraiser for her husband Thursday evening at the Cook Convention Center.

The last time the first lady made an official visit to Memphis was in 2007. She was in town to speak at the funeral for the late COGIC leader Bishop G.E. Patterson.

President Barack Obama was in the Bluff City last year when he delivered the graduation speech for students at Booker T. Washington High School...

If Michelle Obama's visit is anything like her husband's trip, you can expect large crowds and traffic tie ups in the downtown area around the convention center.

City leaders said they still don't know which route the first lady will take but you can bet whichever roads she travels will be slow and go.

Tickets to the fundraiser cost anywhere from $250 to $500. If you would like a photo with First Lady Michelle Obama, you will be reaching deeper into your wallet. A picture with the president's wife will cost around $5,000.
