MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – A Memphis hurdler will be put to the ultimate test Thursday when he competes at the USA Olympic Trials qualifying round. He hopes his time will lead him to the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Richard Lowe is a former University of Memphis Tiger. He will compete in the 400 meter hurdles qualifying round Thursday.

"My goal is to go out and perform and just do my best, no bad races, no hit hurdles," Lowe said in a written statement. "I may not be a favorite to win but if I can sneak one I'll be happy."

Lowe said he has dreamed of winning the gold since he was a little kid.

"As a kid I would imagine that it was me and I would win," he said. "If I could go back in time to talk to myself when I was six or seven and tell myself this is what I would be doing when I was in college, I would not believe myself."

Lowe will hit the track at 4 p.m. in Eugene, Oregon. If he advances, he will hurdle again on Friday in the semifinals. The semifinals will take place at 1:35 p.m. The finals are Sunday at 2:12 p.m.
