Bike ride to support local teen battling cancer

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) -  The prayers and support continue for a mid south high school student who is currently battling stage four pancreatic cancer.

The 15-year-old Collierville High School football player has been met with open arms as Memphians have rallied together to raise funds for his treatment and show overall support.

If you would like to get involved, here's your chance. Metropolitan Bank and the Memphis Hightailers will host the Pray for Trey Bike Ride on Saturday, Jun. 3o, at Germantown Baptist Church, located at 9450 Poplar Ave. All proceeds will go toward meeting Erwin's related expenses.

Phillip May, President of Metropolitan MemphisBank, says it has been inspiring to see the community pull together to rally for Erwin as he fights cancer.

"We hope that this partnership between Metropolitan Bank, Memphis Hightailers and Germantown Baptist Church will add a big boost to the momentum to help Trey and his family stay strong and feel supported," May said.

The ride will consist of three different routes. There will be a 26-miler, a 52-miler and a 1.7-mile family fun ride. The family fun ride will be $15 per person or a $50 per-family maximum, and the other rides will be $45 or $40 for Memphis Hightailers members.

There is also a "ghost rider" participation level available for $30 for those who cannot attend the race but still want to support the cause.

There will also be entertainment at the event. Anthym will perform live music, and Bikes Plus will be in charge of bicycle maintenance during the ride.

The event schedule follows:

7 a.m. Registration

8 a.m. 26- and 52-mile rides begin

9:30 a.m. Family fun ride begins

10 a.m. Cookout begins (provided by the Germantown Baptist BBQ Ministry Team)
