FRANKLIN COUNTY, TN (WAFF) -

Authorities in Franklin County, Tennessee are searching for a killer after they said a passing motorist found a partially burned human body.

Authorities said the driver saw what at first appeared to be a grass fire along a road near the Awalt Bridge at Tims Ford Lake around 1:15 a.m. Monday.

"We don't know right now if it's at random, if that place is just at random, or if that was an area familiar to the perpetrator," said Sgt. Chris Guess with the Franklin County, Tennessee Sheriff's Department.

Authorities said the body is that of a white woman who was 24 years old. She had dark hair and a tattoo of stars on the back of her neck and another tattoo atop her right foot. They have not released her name.

Investigators located the victim's car and took it to forensics.

Throughout the day, people with no connections to the victim stopped to see what's left of the charred ground.

Joe Byrom said it's hard to believe how anyone could do something like that to another person, but he said knowing the killer is still out there makes him nervous for himself and his family.

"It makes you kind of feel uneasy a little bit. It makes you want to carry your gun with you for protection," Byrom said. "I've never really carried one for protection - out hunting is all."

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are handling the investigation. Tips can be telephoned to 800-TBI-FIND.
