(AP) - Two men are charged in Izard County for their alleged roles in a scheme to use a Bible to smuggle illegal narcotics into the county jail.
Sheriff Lawrence Tate said Monday that 23-year-old Brandon Joe "BJ" Gillaspie hid hydromorphone pills inside the lining of a Bible cover and used a third party to bring the book to 23-year-old Jeffrey Chase Moser, who was already locked up.
Tate says Moser was being held on drug charges and is now charged as an habitual offender with conspiracy to furnish prohibited articles into a jail. He's held without bond.
Gillaspie faces the same conspiracy charge, along with several drug-related charges.
Jonesboro television station KAIT reports Gillaspie was released after posting a $5,000 bond. It wasn't clear whether the men have lawyers.
