Towing company offering cheap rides to cut down on holiday drinking and driving.

DESOTO COUNTY, MS - (WMC-TV) – This Independence Day, a towing company is making it their mission to keep drunk drivers off the roads in DeSoto County.

While law enforcement beefs up patrols to catch violators, the tow trucks will offer rides for you and your car anywhere in the county for just $10.

Usually they're the last people you want to see, but on this holiday they may be your best friend.

"We have enough cars and enough drivers that we can put a huge dent in drinking and driving in DeSoto County," said Zac Garner with Lazer Towing.

It's no secret that alcohol is typically on the menu for July 4th parties.

"All holidays can have increased celebration but we just want to make sure that the celebration does not end up behind the wheel this year," said Adam McHann with the DeSoto County Sheriff's Department.

After the grand finales are through and the parties are over, Lazer Towing wants to cut down on the blue and white lights and see more of their flashing yellow.

"I feel like if I haul enough people that I will save a life and that's what it's all about," Garner said.

For Wednesday night only, the crew will tow anyone in DeSoto County to their home with their car on board. The only requirement is that the destination must be within the county.

The company may lose money, but they'd rather lose profits than lives.

One of their co-owners knows all too well the dangers of mixing alcohol with driving.

"About three years ago my brother was killed coming back from Arkansas by a drunk driver across the median and ever since then this is one of our pet peeves," Les Shirley recalled.

Garner said his staff was more than willing to be on call for a busy night.

"We want everybody to celebrate the Fourth of July, we want everyone to have fun, but we don't want them to die doing it," Garner said.

The DeSoto County Sheriff's Department and the Mississippi Highway Patrol will have extra patrols to catch violators.

If you're in need of a safe ride in DeSoto County you can call the company at 901-591-6069 or 662-393-0262.
