MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – Investigators have released the name of a man killed when his plane crashed into a Fayette County field Wednesday morning.

Rickie Charles Vaughn, of Arlington, TN, was killed when his small, single-engine plane crashed near the intersection of Yager Drive and Oak Grove Road near Moscow, TN.

According to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, the Vaughn was flying out of Millington. He was the only person on board.

A sheriff's office spokesman said the plane, a Cirrus SR20, may have clipped the top of a tree line causing it to go down. NTSB will investigate and determine an official cause for the crash.

However, the National Transportation Safety Board is responsible for determining the cause of the crash.

"Witnesses said that they had heard the plane flying around in the air earlier. And then they heard a loud revving sound of the engine. It appeared to clip the tree line behind us and the plane went down at that point," explained Ray Garcia, Fayette County Sheriff's Office.

Witness Herbert Allen said he will never forget what he heard.

"I just heard the crash," he said. "Sounded like two freight trains run together."
