(WMC-TV) - Action News 5's Joe Birch was injured during a traffic accident in Midtown Tuesday night.

Joe's neck was broken, but according to his wife, Robin, his doctor says it's the best kind of break a patient can get.

The doctor also says there are no other tears or injuries.

Joe will not need surgery, but he will need time to recover and Robin tells us that she and his two sons will be taking good care of him.

When the accident happened, Joe was driving to a business on Union Avenue to mail a thank you gift.

Right now, it is unclear when he will be back to work or how long he will be in the hospital.

Robin said that Joe had never been involved in a car accident before this one.
