BARTLETT, TN -

(WMC-TV) - One branch of the City of Memphis Credit Union has moved to Bartlett and criminals may have caused the move.

Crime and isolation are just a few of the many things the credit union considered before moving.

Now the facility is in a new location and Thursday it celebrated its grand opening.

City of Memphis Credit Union CEO Ken Swann said now that the facility has moved out of Raleigh, members and employees have a lot to look forward to.

"So far, our members have enjoyed two traditional, drive up ATM's and a much nicer facility with 750 more square footage," said Swann. "The employees are happier, members are happier."

The Raleigh branch, which was located in the Village Mart Shopping Center on Covington Pike, moved just a mile to its new location on Stage Road in Bartlett on July, 2.

Swann said the credit union needed to be closer to some of its 25,000 members, in a location that wasn't as isolated as the one in Raleigh.

Swann said the branch was the only business left in the shopping center.

"In 2011, someone did make an attempt to back into the branch and essentially take the ATM," he said. "They were able to jump the curb and actually drive into the front of the location."

Despite the fact that the Raleigh branch has moved, 5 of the 6 City of Memphis Credit Union branches remain inside the city limits.
