New cases of the West Nile Virus in Mississippi

MISSISSIPPI -

(WMC-TV) – The West Nile virus is hitting a little too close to home for some Mid-Southerners.

Mississippi's department of health reports seven new cases of the west Nile virus in the state.

The virus has now been detected in Marion, Yazoo, Hinds, Jones, Forrest, Covington and Coahoma counties.

And in total, there have been 11 this year.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the best way to prevent West Nile, is to prevent mosquito bites - period.
