(WMC-TV) - A family mourning a lost loved one had its memorial ruined at the hands of an armed man last week, according to court records.

Police say five members of a family were remembering a dead relative by shooting bottle rockets in the 3000 block of Atmore when one of the fireworks landed in William Avant's yard.

The stray rocket angered Avant who went inside his home and grabbed a pistol, according to court records.

Officers say Avant came back outside and pointed the handgun at the family members, including a 5-year-old child, and threatened them.

The 50 year old has been charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault.

He is currently being held on $30,000 bond.
