MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – Police are still looking for the person responsible for killing two Mid-South men and leaving their bodies in the basement of their home Thursday.

Anthony Conte, 26, and Robert Schmidt, 30 were killed in an overnight home invasion.

The two men were inside a home on East Yates Road when they were shot. Investigators found them dead in the basement.

Police say a preliminary investigation shows a man broke into the home and shot the two men several times just after midnight Thursday.

Neighbors are hoping this was not a random act of violence.

"It's our neighborhood, we've lived here forever and we have to protect it and report any strange happenings and things like that," said Kim Dollar.

"It would give you piece of mind knowing that if it was somebody new, if it wasn't random," said Alex Evans, whose grandparents live nearby. "If it was a random attack or a random robbery, it could happen to anybody, any of us."

If you have any information that could help police, call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.

Investigators have not identified a suspect at this time.
