MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - People across Tennessee headed to the polls Thursday, but problems have been reported by some Shelby County voters and now some candidates have concerns about the election.

Shelby County Election Commission officials say they have resolved the typical problems that are expected during every election.

But there are still questions surrounding 3 races that feature incumbent Democrats facing off against each other after districts were realigned.

The races in Senate District 30 and House Districts 90 and 93 have friends turned election opponents.

Some people fear that problems during early voting could create contention.

The state is auditing the early vote because it appears about 3,000 people cast ballots in the wrong precincts.

The candidates in the races are very popular, so it's likely the final voting results will be close.

If the results are too close, it's likely there will be a big battle and could leave the Democratic Party with a problem.

"If the elections were very close and there was some reason to doubt the accuracy of the election, the party would look to its own rules to determine the winner, or if they have some other method, or if they want to ask the election commission to hold a special election," said Robert Meyers, chair of the election commission.

The problems with early voting originated from the redistricting battle which meant the election commission only had a few weeks to gear up for early voting.
