JONESBORO, AR -

(WMC-TV) – Hundreds gathered together in Jonesboro Arkansas for a candlelight vigil remembering the Southaven man shot to death in the back of a police car - while he was handcuffed.

Chavis Carter's story has gained national attention, and there are still man questions surrounding his death.

However, vigil organizers say they are giving the justice system the time it needs for the investigation.

"We're not here to hurl accusations but to say that certainly a tragedy occurred and that we're coming together for the healing of our city and of course we're praying for the family and the officers as well," Rev. Adrian Rodgers said.

Jonesboro police say Carter shot himself while handcuffed in the Cruiser.

The FBI is assisting the investigation.

Both officers involved are on administrative leave.
