CLARKSDALE, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi State University will hold the first north Mississippi peanut field day on Aug. 29 in Coahoma County.
Registration for the half-day of activities begins at 9 a.m. There will be updates by Mississippi State specialists and harvest demonstrations.
The day's events will be held at the Agostinelli farm on Monty Martin Road off New Africa Road in Clarksdale.
Don Respess, Coahoma County extension director, said peanut acreage continues to rise in Mississippi Delta counties.
Of the 50, 000 peanut acres planted in Mississippi this year, about 15,000 are in the Delta. In 2011, the crop contributed $16 million to the state's economy, he said.
More information about field day activities is available from Respess at 662- 624-3070 or by email at drespess(at)ext.msstate.edu.
