MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A Memphis mother charged with beating a little league coach with a baseball bat appeared in court Monday morning.

Lakeshia Richmond, 27, claims she was protecting her children when she attacked her kids' baseball coach with a bat she got out of the trunk of her car.

Richmond told Action News 5 she did it after her two young sons told her the coach inappropriately touched them.

Richmond's morning in court was brief. Her case was reset until next month to give her time to find an attorney.

At last check, the coach was still hospitalized in serious condition.

Police continue to investigate Richmond's abuse claims against him.

The victim's grandmother said the coach has no criminal history. She hopes Richmond, who she called a vigilante, is appropriately punished.
