COLLIERVILLE, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Collierville police need your help tracking down a woman who stole several signs from outside of a church school.

The same thing happened last summer and officials at Faith Lutheran Church's pre-school assumed it must've been a teenage prank.

But this time, the crime was caught on video surveillance and school leaders say it's a theft that's almost too ridiculous to believe.

"To steal from a church is just wrong," said Dina Foshee, pre-school director. "We really teach our kids here the Christian ideals and thou shalt not steal."

Surveillance cameras roll continuously at the school and captured the scene at 8:45 last Wednesday night as a sedan pulled into the driveway.

A woman with an iPod strapped to her right arm and wearing sneakers and a tennis skirt strolled up and snagged what she wanted.

She was gone in less than 20 seconds.

Her big score?

One traffic control sign in the shape of a little, neon man.

The sign is designed to warn parents to slow down and to keep cars from coming underneath the building's overhang near its front door.

A church benefactor has already replaced the sign and it wasn't very difficult to find another little, neon man. After all, they retail for around $30 at Walmart.

Still photos of the thief hang on the school's windows while parents and teachers have been trying to solve the mystery for a week and a half.

"We have a few theories," said teacher Caroline Gilbert. "It appears to be a soccer mom."

Gilbert said no one has been able to identify the lady, but she suspects this caper might be a message.

"Me personally, I'm not so sure that it's about the little man more as it is that parents want to be able to drop off in front," she said. "I'm not 100 percent sure."

Pre-school director Dina Foshee called Collierville police, but decided against filing a formal report.

"I'd love it if the man just mysteriously appeared over the weekend," Foshee said. "That would be great. There would be no questions asked. Just bring him back, that'd be great."

If you recognize the woman in the video, the church pre-school asks that you try to convince her to return the sign.

They also ask everyone to stop taking their little, neon man signs.
