MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - FedEx is known for delivering millions of packages every day, but a special delivery by one of the company's executive's received all of the attention Tuesday.

An act of kindness brought some of the company's workers together Tuesday as they surprised their coworker, Glenda Corwin, with the FedEx Humanitarian Award.

"You hear all these stories that it's much worse for the donor than it is for the recipient," Corwin said. "Well, none of that's true."

Just five months ago, Corwin, the company's vice president of worldwide services, donated her kidney to Mark Orris, a colleague and friend of 14 years.

Corwin's mother received a lifesaving kidney donation 10 years ago.

"I prayed that if my mom could receive a kidney then I would someday pay it forward," she said.

Learning that Orris faced the same debilitating disease, Corwin said she immediately made her decision.

She offered her kidney, and she was a match.

"I may not be real talented, but at least I was granted a healthy body so that maybe I could help somebody else," she said.

While Corwin said she's honored by the award, she doesn't feel like a hero, but rather hopes her generosity will encourage someone else to pay it forward.

"I would encourage anyone to do it, if they could be a match," she said. "I mean it's an easy thing to do."
