
(CNN) - Legendary astronaut Neil Armstrong was buried Friday in a private service held by his family in Cincinnati, OH.
The first man on the moon died on Aug. 25 of complications from a cardiovascular procedure. He was 82.
Armstrong's fellow Apollo 11 pilot Buzz Aldrin called Armstrong a "true American hero."
Aldrin was at the memorial service along with fellow astronaut Michael Collins.
Memorials were also held around the country, including events at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington, Kennedy Space Center in Florida, and the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama.
