Delta State moving up in safety

CLEVELAND, Miss. (AP) - Delta State University has moved one step closer in receiving federal recognition as a disaster resistant college.

The Bolivar Commercial reports (http://bit.ly/OySTbv) that DSU's quest to become a disaster resistant university began in 2009 with funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for work on a campus-specific Hazard Mitigation Plan.

DSU has entered into a professional agreement with Eco-Systems, Inc., a firm specializing in environmental engineering and consulting.

With their help the university has already received several stamps of approval from various organizations including FEMA and the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.

If ultimately approved as disaster resistant university, Delta State will become eligible to apply for FEMA grants and other funding to financially assist with disasters.
