MUNFORD, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Residents in the city of Munford, Tennessee are getting ready for a big homecoming in a little over a week.

A Mid-South soldier nearly killed in combat is about to make his way home for the first time.

Munford Marine Christian Brown says he is a walking miracle.

Known as CB to his friends, he was sprinting from building to building in Afghanistan last December when an IED went off.

He lost both legs, a finger, and had severe burns to his arm.

Seen here walking for the first time since late last year, residents in Brown's hometown of Munford are getting ready for a big homecoming celebration.

"Nothing brings a small community together like Friday night football and Brighton High School was on board with it too," said Munford High Football Booster President Jason Winfield.

On Friday September 28, Corporal Christian Brown will come home for the first time and will be honored at the Munford - Brighton football game.

"He's gonna have a pre-game meal with the football players and we're gonna do a pre-game event where we donate all the money we've raised for him at that time," added Winfield.

So far, Munford football boosters have raised $2,100.

Brighton High school band boosters have also raised money.

But community leaders hope more monies can be raised to help Brown and his family.

"One thing, his mother had to quit her job. She's been by his side since they got him to Germany. She made it there and that was December," said Winfield.

Donations to Christian Brown fund can be made at any First Citizens National Bank.

Pre-game festivities featuring Corporal Brown will take place Friday, September 28, at 6:15 p.m. at the Munford High School football field.

Event organizers say residents who do not normally attend football games are planning to attend this special game to honor a special serviceman.
