MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – When officers arrived at a parking lot in the 3600 of Mill Branch around midnight Saturday, they discovered two men had been robbed.   One of the men had been shot in the leg.

"I was asleep.  My daughter came and got me up and said Rodriguez got shot," said Yvonne Burris, who knows one of the victims.

According to police, the 51-year-old man was pushing his car into the parking when he was attacked.

Yvonne Burris says her son and the victim are friends.

"My son is in the car business.  He sells and buys cars.  That's how he may have met Rodriguez.  Rodriguez is a nice guy.  My son is a nice guy...mind their own business.  These things just happen," said Burris.

The victim told investigators a man in a blue hoodie pointed a handgun at him, demanded his money and cell phone, then shot him.  He says the suspect then took off on foot toward the Winbranch Apartments.

"I was standing outside and heard the gunshots and I saw the guys when they all scattered out.  The next thing I know, we walked across and that's when I saw someone lying down," said one witness.

A second victim told police that as he was watching the robbery unfold, two additional men came from behind the building, forced him to the ground and took his wallet.

"When people want to hang out on the corner all the time that's just bad.  You're asking for trouble.  The neighborhood is not like it used to be" said Burris.

So far no arrests have been made.  Anyone with information that can help police solve this crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH.
