(WMC-TV) – The driver of the truck that crashed while carrying 100 cattle reportedly fell asleep at the wheel.
The DeSoto County sheriff says the woman dozed off before the 18-wheel double-decker cattle truck hit a bridge on Highway 78.
The truck caught fire and dozens of animals were killed. At least 40 cows died, 40 others were taken away safely, and 20 others were not accounted for after the accident.
On the scene of the accident, Action News 5 was told the driver was expected to be okay.
