MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – A 17-year-old Ridgeway High School student was arrested after the principal found two loaded guns and extra ammo in his car.

According to Memphis police, an anonymous caller told the principal that the student had a weapon inside his 2001 Red Chevrolet Camaro.

The student gave the principal his keys.

While searching the car, the principal found a black duffle bag with a 9mm Ruger/P89 and a 9mm Smith & Wesson/3953 inside. Both guns were loaded. There was also a box of ammo.

The tip was called in via the Trust Pays program. It is a Crime Stoppers initiative that started in January 2007. It is a way to alert authorities about weapons on school campuses.

But students at Ridgeway High School are not concerned.

Memphis City Schools officials say the student has been suspended and recommended for expulsion.

A final decision on his punishment will be made by a separate review board.

MCS responded in a written statement:

"Weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited on school campuses. Any student that is in violation will be disciplined in accordance with the law and board policy. Among our highest priorities is to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment for our students."

The teen was taken to juvenile court and is charged with two counts of carrying a weapon on school property.
