WYNNE, AR -
(WMC-TV) - A community in Arkansas has been in turmoil after an alleged hazing incident at Wynne High School.
And now, national organizers with the Commission on Religion and Racism(CORR) say what happened at Wynne High School last week was not a joke or a prank. They claim it was a premeditated incident, and they say they want justice.
This story first made headlines after the family of a 14-year-old African American football player at the school claimed a noose was placed around his neck inside the locker room by two white players.
Following the incident, the school board voted to expel the players, but only for the remainder of the semester – not the entire school year. This decision outraged several people in the community.
Today, CORR and other community members will protest the decision. Something they say is a cover-up by the school's principal, superintendent, and school board.
In addition to the protest, the group plans to campaign to remove the school leaders from their positions and request a US Justice Department investigation.
That protest is scheduled to start at Wynne High School at 11 a.m.
