(WMC-TV) - Mississippi Congressman Alan Nunnelee was in the Mid-South Wednesday talking jobs at a roundtable discussion in Olive Branch.

Nunnelee told Action News 5 that the concern he is hearing the most from businesses in Mississippi is uncertainty in the state of the economy.

He told leaders in the business community on Wednesday that he is working for less government involvement in small business.

Nunnelee says he believes the country's high tax rate is threatening growth and jobs because he says other countries are too hesitant to invest.

In addition to his hopes for the future, the congressman also gave updates on what has been done so far.

"We've been involved in legislation that would cut spending, that would cut government borrowing that would make sure by the end of this year we don't have the largest tax increase in American history," said Congressman Alan Nunnelee.

Going forward, Nunnelee says he would like to look at recovering our country's energy in hopes of lowering gas prices for commuters in the Mid-South.
