YOUR TURN: Officer shoots dog

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - This week's "Your Turn" segment comes from the Action News 5 Facebook page where many people are commenting about the Memphis Police officer who shot a Labrador retriever because the officer apparently thought the dog was threatening to a child.

The child's parents say the officer completely misjudged the situation and he should not have shot their family dog.  Many people were upset about the officer's actions and some complained about our coverage.

Here's what Nikki Thompson had to say:

"More than one witness stated that the dog stopped his actions when commanded to do so by the officer. That was the time to assess the situation, not discharge a firearm in the presence of a group of children. Thank God the only injury was to the dog. I hope the poor dog survives, and the children won't have lasting effects from the trauma."

That's Nikki Thompson's turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email yourturn@wmctv.com or call 800-465-1210.
