MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – A 22-year-old mother is charged with false reporting after telling police a man took off in her car with her 3-year-old daughter inside.

Ashley Jones told police she was stopped at a red light on Airways Boulevard and Lamar Avenue when a black man jumped into her passenger seat and demanded she get out of the SUV.

She said she pulled into a nearby apartment complex where her boyfriend lived. When her boyfriend confronted the suspect, she said he drove away in her vehicle with her 3-year-old daughter in the car seat.

Officers stopped the suspect, who was taken into custody without incident.

During the investigation, the victim admitted she did know the man who was driving her vehicle and she originally did have him in the SUV with her.

The suspect in the case was released and will not face any charges.

Jones is charged with false reporting.
