(WMC-TV) – At least 16 deaths in the U.S. are blamed on hurricane Sandy, which slammed into the New Jersey coastline Monday night.

At this time, 6.2 million homes and businesses across the East have no electricity. And officials say it could be a week before some of them get their power restored.

Dozens of homes and businesses in New York have gone up in flames during the storm as well. And firefighters are having a hard time getting to the flames because of the rising flood waters.

We will continue to monitor the storm, and will update you guys every step of the way. Please continue to check back with wmctv.com throughout the day for updates.
