MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A Memphis woman who was shot in 2007 is now in need of life saving surgery.

Barbara Wooten's survived a shooting, her husband did not.

The Wooten family is bracing for another trauma.

She needs a heart transplant as a result of complications from the shooting.

"Hoping this new heart will make her feel a little better - the doctor said maybe 10 or 15 more years, so that's what I'm looking for," said victim's son Hugh Wooten.

Wooten's doctors have found a match and she may undergo transplant surgery as soon as next week.

Wooten was shot by 22-year-old Dexter Cox just two weeks after he shot and killed another woman.

Cox is already serving a life sentence and is awaiting trial for the murder of Memphis police officer Ed Vidulich.
