According to the Emax Health article, “A new report suggests insulin pumps and insulin sensors may be damaged when individuals wearing them go through a full-body scan at an airport.” The article states that insulin pumps and glucose level monitors can be damaged by the electromagnetic properties of airport security scanners, causing them to malfunction. The article urges anyone with a pump or monitor to request a pat-down or a regular metal detector rather than walk through the scanner to avoid and malfunction in their equipment.
The article brings up the point that, “while advances in medical technology are helping improve the lives of individuals who have serious health issues, they also have the potential to makes those lives more complicated.” According to the article people who use insulin pumps or glucose level monitors should take pre flight precautions to make sure they clear airport security without any problem.
Travel company Surf Patch stressed the importance of preparing yourself for security checkpoints when using diabetes devices.
